 SCIENTIFIC AREA
NATURAL PRODUCTS DIVULGATION ACQUACULTURE

CPD, Consulting & Professional Diving’s work in the scientific area is based on the creation and development of scientific projects requested by private companies and different research groups. The aim is to optimise relationships between private companies (identifying their needs) and public institutions, and develop innovative techniques with research centres.

This is possible thanks to the knowledge and experience accumulated over years of experience in the scientific and business world.

The activities undertaken in this area are as follows:

  • Organisation of scientific expeditions

  • Consulting on and running scientific projects

  • Selective search for natural marine products directed at pharmacological and cosmetic research.

  • Distribution studies, marine flora and fauna

  • Publicising in the sphere of marine sciences

  • Introductory courses on marine biology, marine invertebrates, cetaceans, sharks, oceanography, marine ecology...

  • Installation, assembly and maintenance of aquariums

  • Diving/scientific sampling courses

  • NATURAL PRODUCTS

The use of natural products goes back tens of centuries when man was already finding remedies in natural plant and animal resources to palliate the effects of diseases and disorders of different types.

Thus, in this century and after decades of research, a pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industry has been developed in which bioactive compounds from plants, algae and animals are extracted or purified for principally curative purposes.

A major proportion of pharmacological products which come on to the market come from natural products and are, in fact, remedies which come from that great dispensary which is nature.

CPD, Consulting & Professional Diving is a company whose scientific work centres on the search for land and marine organisms able to house bioactive substances and make them available to pharmaceutical and cosmetic laboratories.

The components of the scientific department of CPD, Consulting & Professional Diving has more than five years of experience in bioprospecting and ensures high quality products are obtained.

CPD respects biodiversity agreements relating to the genetic heritage of the country from which the organisms are taken, and opens up the possibility, where desired, of liasing between the interested company or laboratory and the appropriate institutions in the country from which the biological samples come.

CPD observes CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) in all its scientific work.

    DIVULGATION

CPD, Consulting & Professional Diving is committed to publicising the marine sciences in order to acquaint the public with this non-specialised discipline or with very general scientific information.

In CPD we are absolutely convinced that education is the most effective way of raising awareness of the current marine environment, always from a rigorously scientific viewpoint.

CPD collaborates with many different national and international institutions over marine environmental education, publicising scientific information and publishing text and teaching material.

CPD runs courses and training on aspects which it considers of great interest, at both a practical level as well as supplementary theoretical training on other studies:

           -course on Scientific diving.

           -course on basic Marine Biology.

           -course on descriptive Oceanography.

           -course on Marine Ecology.

    ACQUACULTURE

In addition to the bioprospecting it undertakes, CPD Consulting & Professional Diving has identified the need on occasions to obtain a considerable biomass of specific selected organisms or a continuous supply of these over an extensive period of time. These organisms are not removed from the marine environment, since this could affect it negatively and cause irreversible ecological change. For this reason, after a prior feasibility study, breeding and reproduction of the organism under study is considered, assessing its cost and probabilities of success. Thus, an “a la carte” provision of organisms is obtained.

A good example is the project to culture Aplysia, a model of neurophysiological studies in medicine.
